| Untill a few years ago, Lancaster county's Civil war soldiers gathered annually for a reunion and a photograph taken at the Confederate monument on the local courthouse lawn. A recent call issued through the News for photographs brought forth the above reunion picture taken around 1913. In the center is Hardy MJontogomery, well-known darkie of the county wo lived to be aobut 118 years of age. (Claude Sinclair verified that at the SC Archives). Following is identification from one local connoisseur of names and faces: first row, left to right --- Billy Steele, J.M. Riddle, Nelson Montgomery, Wylie Porter, T.B. Craig, Henry Steele, J.E. Stewman, Billie Sistare and two Rogers: second row, right to left ---- ? Carnes, Joseph Walker, Wesley Collings, Billy Knight, Jeff Adkins, Billy Marshall, John Caskey and Irvin Rowell: Third row, left to right-- ? Lyles, ? Addison, J.D. Caskey, W.G. Porter, F.D. Lucas, W.L. Caskey and W.B. Bruce From Roger Broughton: James Marion Broughton is on the right side of the monument, the second one standing up with the white shirt and dark jacket. From Scott Sims: My gg Grandfather and uncle is pictured. Jefferson Jackson Sims is standing on the left side (our right) of the monument in line iwth the inscription "Our Confederate Soldiers". There is a gentleman sitting next to the monument holding his hat in his sap and granfather is standing next to him. T J.J. Sim's immediate left with his head at about elbow level is his brother, James Edward "Doc" Sims. |
